Begin in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's vibrant capital, before venturing into the remote and dramatic Danakil Depression. Descend into one of the planet's most inhospitable yet mesmerising regions, where colourful sulfur springs, salt flats, and the active lava lake of Erta Ale create a landscape that feels utterly alien. Here, you'll witness geological forces at work and experience the raw power of nature in its most primal form.

Day 1 – Arrival in Addis Ababa | City Tour

Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's vibrant capital, begin your journey with a guided city tour. Visit the National Museum of Ethiopia, home to the world-famous fossil Lucy, before exploring the magnificent Holy Trinity Cathedral, the final resting place of Emperor Haile Selassie.

Continue to Merkato, one of Africa's largest open-air markets, where you can experience the city's bustling commercial life. End the day with a scenic drive to Mount Entoto, offering spectacular panoramic views over Addis Ababa.

Day 2 – Fly to Semera – Lake Afrera

Semera – Lake Afrera

Take a morning flight to Semera and journey into the spectacular Afar Desert. Drive across dramatic volcanic landscapes to Lake Afrera, a hypersaline lake surrounded by vast salt flats.

Enjoy a refreshing float in the mineral-rich waters, explore the salt extraction areas, and experience the unique beauty of one of Ethiopia's most remote and fascinating regions.

Day 3 – Dallol – Ragad Salt Mines – Erta Ale Volcano

Continue to Ragad, where local Afar communities have traditionally mined salt for centuries. Later, drive to Erta Ale Volcano. In the evening, hike to the crater rim to witness one of the world's few permanent lava lakes—an unforgettable natural spectacle beneath the stars.

Day 4 – Erta Ale – Lake Afdera – Semera – Addis Ababa

Continue to Semera Airport for your afternoon flight back to Addis Ababa.

Day 5 – Fly to Mekelle – Tigray Rock-Hewn Churches – Adwa

Mekelle – Gheralta

Fly to Mekelle and travel into the spectacular Gheralta Mountains, home to some of Ethiopia's most remarkable rock-hewn churches.

Visit the breathtaking Abuna Yemata Guh, dramatically perched on a sheer cliff face, renowned for its ancient frescoes and panoramic views. Continue to Maryam Korkor and St. George Church, each showcasing centuries of Ethiopian Christian history before driving to Adwa.

Day 6 – Battle of Adwa – Mekelle – Addis Ababa

After visiting this important national landmark, return to Mekelle for your flight back to Addis Ababa.

Day 7 – Fly to Lalibela

Lalibela

Day 8 – Lalibela – Addis Ababa – Departure

Fly back to Addis Ababa for your final day in Ethiopia. Depending on your departure schedule, enjoy some free time for last-minute shopping or sightseeing before gathering for a traditional Ethiopian farewell dinner featuring authentic cuisine, live music, and cultural dance performances.

Later, transfer to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport for your onward international flight.
