This 3-day, 2-night package takes travellers deep into the lush Tortuguero National Park, one of Costa Rica’s most biodiverse regions. Guests explore the famous canals by boat, spotting wildlife such as monkeys, sloths, toucans, and caimans in their natural habitat. The tour covers the Caribbean lowlands of northern Costa Rica, a remote area accessible mainly by boat, adding to the sense of adventure. What makes this experience unique is the chance to immerse oneself in pristine rainforest, learn about local communities, and, during nesting season, witness sea turtles laying eggs on Tortuguero’s beaches.
Day 1 – Arrival and Transfer to Tortuguero
Guests are picked up early from San José or nearby hotels and travel by bus through scenic landscapes and banana plantations before boarding a boat that navigates the canals toward Tortuguero. Along the way, the naturalist guide provides commentary about the region’s ecology and culture. Upon arrival at the lodge, lunch is served, followed by a guided visit to the small village of Tortuguero and its Caribbean surroundings. Dinner is included at the lodge.
Day 2 – Exploration of the Canals
After breakfast, guests embark on a guided boat tour through the national park’s waterways, observing a wide variety of wildlife such as monkeys, toucans, sloths, and caimans. The guide interprets the rainforest ecosystem, pointing out unique plant and animal interactions. In the afternoon, travellers enjoy a guided walk along the lodge’s trails or another boat excursion, depending on conditions. Meals are included at the lodge.
Day 3 – Return to San José
Following breakfast, the group departs by boat through the canals and then continues by bus back toward San José. The journey offers final views of the rural countryside and plantations, with the guide providing narration until arrival at the city or connecting hotels.
