Discover the night sky of Romania on a guided stargazing tour. Learn to identify constellations, planets and star clusters, explore astronomy basics through hands-on activities, and observe deep-sky objects with professional telescopes. A magical and educational experience under clear Northern Hemisphere skies.
We invite you to a special meeting by night; a meeting to look at the sky full of stars, planets and constellations visible from the Northern Hemisphere, from 45 degrees N, that is exactly halfway between the Equator and the North Pole. The invitation is for those who desire to explore with us the night sky.
We will discover astronomy, the celestial sphere and the constellations through workshops and hands-on astronomy applications:
We will look at the constellations visible all year-round in the Northern Hemisphere, like Ursa Major (Big Dipper), Ursa Minor(Little Dipper) with its Pole Star, Cassiopeia, Draco, Cepheus, and, depending on season, Andromeda, Pegasus, Perseus, Orion, Canis Major, Gemini, Hercules, Ophiucus. And with the help of the telescope, we will go into a new world, we'll see Messier and NGC objects, nebulae and star clusters that we will see with our own eyes, probably never before.
Astronomical observations are conditioned by the weather!
We invite you to a special meeting by night; a meeting to look at the sky full of stars, planets and constellations visible from the Northern Hemisphere, from 45 degrees N, that is exactly halfway between the Equator and the North Pole. The invitation is for those who desire to explore with us the night sky. We use a Celestron NexStar 8SE telescope with a 200 mm(8 inches) lens and electronic focuser, dual servo motors, a reflecting scope of 90 mm and, most importantly, a guide that will introduce you to the mysteries of the night sky.
We learn about the night sky, we learn how to recognise the constellations, stars and planets, but also about the movement of the stars, time, and Earth's rotation. Equipment: In summertime, we dress up with long pants and a long-sleeved jacket/anorak. Mosquito repellent is recommended.
In fall and wintertime, for stargazing we dress up warmly, with a hat, warm shoes, and gloves, as we will be outside for about three hours in a temperature that can go around and even below 0˚C.
We provide blankets and a hot tea :).
Note: We strongly advise against using white light lamps; we use only red light ones, as they don't affect the eye's capacity to see at night.
For stargazing, we need good weather conditions and a clear sky; in case of bad weather, we have to reschedule the tour or reimburse you.
