Explore the beauty of rural Transylvania on a guided cycling adventure through Cristian, Vulcan and Holbav. Ride past Saxon villages, fortified churches, river valleys and rolling hills, with scenic climbs, gravel roads and stunning mountain views. A perfect mix of culture, nature and active exploration.
In the morning, we will meet at a designated place where you will have the chance to get familiarised with your bike.
Once ready, we will cycle to Cristian village, where you will visit the charming streets and admire the unique old Saxon houses, most of them dating back to the 1800s. Once we reach the centre, we will visit the Evangelic fortified church, built in the 12th-13th century. During the years, it was constantly modified, especially after the damage caused by earthquakes. After a brief history lesson, we will continue our tour with a fast stretch of paved road towards Vulcan, where we will tackle our first climb of the day, a 4-kilometre twisting road towards the village of Holbav. During the climb, feel free to stop and admire the stunning scenery and the mountains. Once we reach Holbav, we take a break, and after a short but fast descent, we will reach the main street. We can stop at a local shop for refreshments and exit the village. Here is the moment the paved road ends and a scenic gravel road begins. We will ride along the river, through a picturesque valley, saluting the villagers who are working the land.
After a couple of kilometres, we will begin a series of hard climbs to the high plateau. Be prepared for some serious push bike, unless you choose an e-bike, which will make your life easier. But if you want to test your limits, feel free to tackle the ascents on a regular bike. Your effort will be rewarded with a refreshing drink at a local shop.
Once there, we will ride at the foothills of the Magura Codlei hill, overlooking the rolling hills of Holbav. In the end, we'll descend back to Vulcan and end the tour in Brasov.
